The planning process for my representational reflection piece included a lot of introspection as well as trial and error, specifically while taking reference photos. The biggest obstacle that I encountered during this process was capturing reflections on camera, but I eventually overcame this by adjusting my light source frequently in order to explore all of my options. After deciding on two main ideas, an aerial view of a mug of tea and plants and a profile view of a teapot, plants, and crystals, I came up with 5 different compositions for each concept. I then chose my favorite composition of each idea and turned those into colored sketches in order to explore my choices more thoroughly. I ultimately decided that my final project would be based on the profile view of the teapot, plants, and crystals, as this concept would give me more freedom to use bright colors, something that I think is essential when creating a piece with the goal of expressing myself.
