Styrofoam is definitely an interesting medium. It's very delicate and has a distinct texture, which can make it difficult to work with at times. I modeled my piece after the weather, but this was actually an accident! When I began to carve a swirl into my styrofoam cup, I messed up and it ended up looking like a raindrop. Then inspiration struck, and I just rolled with that. After attaching the clouds, sun, and lightning to the top of the cup, it became top heavy and wanted to fall over, which was challenging, but in the end it all worked out.
I have been working on little cardboard details to go on the big tree that the class is setting up in the cafeteria. So far I've made lots of leaves, flowers, and insects. It's a really fun process, but can be challenging at times to work with cardboard. Lately it's been easier since I've gotten more used to the medium, and I've been able to experiment more with thinner pieces of cardboard. This, in my opinion, gives a more realistic look to the foliage.
